Delhi has reported 360 dengue cases till June this year, along with 46 malaria cases, 21 chikungunya cases and 210 leptospirosis cases, according to data tabled in the Rajya Sabha by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday.
The ministry, responding to an unstarred question on surveillance data for monsoon-related diseases, said Delhi has reported no dengue-related deaths till June this year. It also recorded no malaria deaths and no cases of Japanese Encephalitis during the period.
The data shows that dengue cases in Delhi have steadily declined over the past four years, from 687 cases in 2023 to 555 in 2024, 411 in 2025, and 360 cases till June 2026.
Malaria cases, however, stood at 46 till June 2026, compared with 941 cases in 2025, 910 in 2024 and 344 in 2023. Chikungunya cases dropped sharply to 21 till June this year, after rising from 17 cases in 2023 to 992 in 2024 and 1,629 in 2025.
The Capital also recorded 210 confirmed leptospirosis cases till June, down from 558 in 2025, 570 in 2024 and 630 in 2023. In addition, Delhi reported 19,227 cases of acute diarrhoeal diseases till June this year, with no deaths.
In its reply, the ministry said public health is primarily a State subject, but the Centre provides financial and technical support to states and Union Territories under the National Health Mission for preventing and controlling monsoon-related diseases, including dengue, malaria, chikungunya, leptospirosis, acute diarrhoeal diseases and Japanese Encephalitis.
The government said a nationwide network of 887 Sentinel Surveillance Hospitals and 27 Apex Referral Laboratories has been established for dengue surveillance, while malaria drugs and diagnostics are supplied to states through the National Health Mission. It added that advisories have been issued to states and Union Territories to maintain adequate stocks of diagnostic kits, medicines and insecticides, strengthen disease surveillance, ensure rapid deployment of response teams and step up vector control and public awareness campaigns during the monsoon season.
