The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has made it compulsory for bulk waste generators (BWGs) to register with the civic body and implement proper waste segregation and disposal measures.

In accordance with the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2016, the initiative aims to promote sustainable waste management and ease the pressure on landfill sites, the MCD stated on Monday.

Entities generating over 100 kg of waste daily—including government departments, local bodies, public sector undertakings, and private institutions—must register via the MCD 311 app, accessible on both Android and iOS platforms.

BWGs are required to segregate waste at the source, process wet waste on-site, and hand over dry and residual waste to MCD-authorised collection agencies. To ensure compliance, the MCD has deployed a dedicated team to oversee registrations, monitor adherence, and conduct regular inspections.

The Supreme Court has also emphasised the strict enforcement of the SWM Rules, 2016, underlining the need for effective waste disposal practices.

To strengthen compliance, the MCD has warned of stringent action against violators, including penalties as per Schedule II of the SWM Byelaws, 2017.
