Delhi: MCD to provide new auto-tippers in east, northeast wards by Oct 15 ahead of festive season

In order to strengthen sanitation arrangements in east and northeast Delhi ahead of the festive season, civic body officials held a meeting on Saturday and are planning to deploy additional sanitation workers, improve waste collection and ensure timely removal of garbage from dhalao ghars, statement read.

The directions were issued by Municipal Corporation of Delhi Standing Committee chairperson Satya Sharma during a meeting with the MCD Commissioner to review sanitation arrangements in the Shahdara South and Shahdara North zones.

Deputy Mayor Monica Pant, DEMS Committee chairman Sandeep Kapoor, North-East Zone chairman Pankaj Luthra and East Zone chairman Yashpal Singh, besides senior civic officials, attended the meeting.

Sharma directed officials to ensure that new auto-tippers were provided in all wards by October 15 and that their numbers were increased in areas where they were inadequate, so that door-to-door waste collection and transportation were not affected, according to the statement.

She also directed the installation of new fixed compactors at required locations to improve waste disposal and prevent garbage from accumulating at dhalao ghars.

Emphasising the need for regular lifting of waste, Sharma directed officials to ensure that dhalao ghars were cleaned regularly and garbage was not allowed to remain there for long periods.

She also called for regular monitoring of the work being carried out by private concessionaires, including Metro Waste Company, and directed officials to take action against agencies failing to meet prescribed standards.

“Additional sanitation workers should be deployed wherever required, she said, stressing that merely increasing resources would not be enough unless they were effectively deployed and regularly monitored,” Sharma said in a statement.

With festivals approaching, Sharma directed officials to strengthen sanitation arrangements in major markets, religious places, public spaces, main roads and other high-footfall areas in East and northeast Delhi.

She asked officials to regularly review sanitation works and take immediate corrective measures wherever shortcomings were found.
