Delhi Metro handled a whopping 235.8 crore passenger journeys in 2025 with an average daily ridership of 64.60 lakh passengers daily, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement on Sunday.
Moreover, the inauguration of two new sections on the Pink and Magenta lines on March 8 has further expanded the network and strengthened connectivity across the national capital and the National Capital Region (NCR), it said.
Delhi Metro also operates one of the largest driverless metro networks in the world, it said.
“Delhi Metro handled a record 235.8 crore passenger journeys in 2025, reflecting the growing reliance of commuters on the system and reaffirming its role as the backbone of urban mobility in the national capital region,” said Anuj Dayal, principal executive director (corporate communications), DMRC.
In 2024, the network recorded about 223.5 crore passenger journeys, with an average of 62.39 lakh passengers travelling daily.

According to the DMRC statement, Delhi Metro remains the country’s largest operational metro network and plays a key role in India’s rapidly expanding urban rail system.
With the latest expansion, it said, India now has the world’s third largest metro network, with more than 1,143 kilometres of operational lines across 26 cities, carrying nearly 1.15 crore passengers every day.
Of this, the Delhi-NCR metro network alone accounts for about 416 kilometres with 303 stations, the corporation said.
This includes around 29 kilometres of the Noida-Greater Noida Metro with 21 stations and the Rapid Metro Gurugram, which spans around 13 kilometres with 12 stations connecting Delhi with major NCR cities such as Noida, Greater Noida and Gurugram.
The DMRC operates 343 trains comprising 2,368 coaches and runs around 4,508 train trips daily, covering nearly 1,40,112 train kilometres every day, ensuring high-frequency services across the network, according to the statement.
The system also maintains a punctuality level of about 99.9 per cent, making it among the most reliable metro networks globally.
DMRC said while it has witnessed steady growth in passenger numbers in recent years, recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic between 2020 and 2022, the last two years have also seen the metro surpass its previous ridership records multiple times.
The highest passenger journeys in 2024 were recorded on November 18, when 78,67,649 passengers travelled on the network. This record was later surpassed on August 8, 2025, when 81,87,674 passengers used the system in a single day.
DMRC said the Delhi Metro also operates one of the largest driverless metro networks in the world. Driverless train operations are currently available on the Pink Line and the Magenta Line, covering a combined stretch of more than 120 kilometres.
At present, DMRC operates 80 driverless trains on these corridors as part of its adoption of advanced automation and globally benchmarked metro technologies, the corporation said.
Meanwhile, construction of priority corridors under Phase-IV of the Delhi Metro project is underway. To support future operations, 52 new trains are being procured in phases, of which 18 have already been delivered.
DMRC added that the metro system has significantly reduced travel time, eased road congestion and promoted environmentally sustainable public transport across the Delhi-NCR region over the years.
