The Delhi Police announced the arrest of a man and the seizure of eight semi-automatic pistols along with 80 live cartridges in anticipation of the general elections, as revealed by officials on Thursday.

The suspect, identified as Adnan (23), allegedly established connections with fellow criminals during his incarceration in a robbery case, becoming enticed by their opulent lifestyle.

“We received intelligence on April 2 regarding a potential illegal firearms supplier in the northeast area. Acting swiftly, a specialized team was assembled. They set up surveillance near Kheton Wala Mandir,” stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Joy Tirkey.

Tirkey elaborated that the team apprehended an individual, later identified as Adnan, who was carrying a bag. Upon search, eight semi-automatic pistols and 80 live cartridges were confiscated.

An FIR was lodged against Adnan, initiating a thorough investigation into the matter.

During interrogation, Adnan purportedly confessed to his involvement in the crime and disclosed procuring the firearms from Khurja Junction in Uttar Pradesh with the intention of distributing them to active criminals in Delhi and NCR.

“He has a history of criminal activities, previously implicated in two robbery cases and violations of the Arms Act. His association with other criminals, fostered during his time in jail, continued even after his release,” shared the DCP, mentioning Adnan’s connection with Hashim Baba, sustained post-bail release.
