Delhi Police arrests total of 51 people this year for various offences

Delhi Police has arrested 51 individuals this year for various crimes, including robbery, snatching, burglary, and violations of the Arms Act, an official reported on Friday.

As per data released by the police, the arrests include 12 under the Arms Act, 10 for gambling-related offenses, eight each under the Excise Act and for snatching, seven for vehicle theft, four under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and one each for robbery and burglary, recorded up to February 21.

Additionally, authorities have taken 1,209 preventive actions under different sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 1,194 under the Delhi Excise Act, and 15,396 under the Dowry Prohibition Act, the statement further noted.

Meanwhile, crime rates in the national capital saw a decline across multiple categories in January 2025 compared to the same period in 2024 and 2023, according to Delhi Police data.

Attempted murder cases dropped to 50 in January 2025 from 71 in 2024 and 59 in 2023. Robbery incidents also decreased, with 103 cases reported this year compared to 146 in 2024 and 111 in 2023.

Similarly, cases of snatching fell to 369 in 2025 from 623 in 2024 and 558 in 2023. Reported incidents under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and rape cases declined to 101 in January 2025, down from 134 in 2024 and 140 in 2023.

Molestation cases also saw a decline, with 110 incidents in 2025 compared to 135 in 2024 and 163 in 2023. Eve-teasing cases dropped to 16 in 2025 from 24 in 2024 and 37 in 2023.

Burglary cases in January 2025 were recorded at 566, slightly lower than the 619 cases in both 2024 and 2023, while abduction cases saw a significant decrease to 9 in 2025 from 18 in the previous two years.

Fatal road accidents also showed a marginal decline, with 87 cases in 2025 compared to 93 in 2024 and 94 in 2023.
