Delhi: A day after assuming office, Delhi’s Transport Minister Pankaj Singh announced that the city will see a major shift towards electric mobility, with a target of 11,000 electric buses within the next 18 months.
Addressing reporters on Friday, Singh revealed that 50% of Delhi Transport Corporation’s CNG buses have already been phased out, and the remaining will be retired in the coming months. He assured that 1,500 electric buses are already in operation, and the fleet expansion will significantly improve the city’s public transport system.
Singh also reaffirmed that the free bus service for women will continue under the BJP-led government, underscoring the administration’s commitment to accessible and improved public transportation.
In addition to transport, Singh, who also holds the health and IT portfolios, directed officials to submit a detailed report on the state of Mohalla Clinics. He raised concerns about irregular operations, stating that 30-40% of the clinics do not open regularly despite bills being generated. Inspections will be conducted, and corrective measures will be taken within 100 days to address these issues.
