Two Delhi Traffic Police constables saved a 45-year-old government school teacher’s life by rushing him to a hospital in an e-rickshaw instead of waiting for an ambulance after he allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from the Rani Jhansi Flyover here, officials said on Sunday.
The incident took place on July 8 at around 4 pm when traffic police personnel deployed at Azad Market Chowk received information that a man was attempting to jump from the flyover.
Constables Sahil and Amit immediately rushed to the spot, found the injured man after the fall and rushed him to Hindu Rao Hospital in a passing e-rickshaw to ensure he received emergency treatment without delay, they said.
The injured man was later identified as Anand Kumar Saroha (45), a government school teacher. After receiving initial treatment at Hindu Rao Hospital, he was referred to St. Stephen’s Hospital for specialised care, the officials said.
Doctors have said he is out of danger and continues to remain admitted.
Police said the prompt response and coordinated efforts of the traffic personnel played a crucial role in saving the teacher’s life. The reason behind the alleged suicide attempt has not been disclosed.
