A 24-year-old proclaimed offender carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 for his arrest in a drug trafficking case has been apprehended from Gujarat, Delhi Police said on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Bazid Khan, a resident of Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh, was wanted in a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the crime branch police station, he said.

He had been evading arrest since May 2023 and was declared a proclaimed offender by a Delhi court in February.

The police said Khan’s name had surfaced during the interrogation of one Imran Khan alias Sahil, who was arrested last year with 269 grams of contraband. Imran had disclosed Bazid as the source of the narcotics.

The team initially conducted raids in Shahjahanpur and Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh, but Khan was not found there. His location was later traced to Morbi in Gujarat.

On May 15, the team reached Gujarat and carried out multiple raids. After sustained efforts, Khan was apprehended from Morbi on May 18, officials said.

Experts call Delhi Jal Board’s sewage plan flawed and unlawful

Days after the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) released a detailed action plan to curb the discharge of untreated sewage into the Yamuna, environmentalists have criticised the proposal as “unreasonable” and “illogical.” They argue that installing sewage treatment plants (STPs) at the mouths of major drains would render existing STPs irrelevant and contravene environmental guidelines. Activists claim that the DJB cannot construct STPs at the mouths of major drains such as the Shahdara and Najafgarh, as these locations fall within the Yamuna floodplain—an area where construction is prohibited under directives issued by the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Speaking to Patriot, environmentalist Pankaj Kumar, founder of Earth Warrior—a volunteer group that cleans the Yamuna ghats in Delhi—said officials are not even assessing the feasibility of their plan.

Delhi govt to boost sports infra, provide financial assistance to athletes: CM Gupta

The Delhi government will boost sports infrastructure in the city and provide professional coaching and training to budding athletes through a public-private partnership (PPP) mode, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Tuesday. The BJP government will provide all necessary facilities to sportspersons so that they do not migrate to other states, and bring glory to the city, she said while inaugurating Delhi Games-2025 at Talkatora stadium. “Under the previous governments, sportspersons in city had to leave the city and get registered in other states. But, now the city government is arranging facilities for them through the Delhi Sports Council,” she said.
