Delhi reports over 400 new dengue cases in a week

Delhi has experienced a new rise in dengue cases, with 401 fresh infections reported between September 22 and 28, according to official data.

Malaria and chikungunya cases have also shown an upward trend recently.

With this increase, the total number of dengue cases in the capital has reached 1,630 as of September 28.

In last month alone, 1,052 dengue cases were recorded by September 28, as per data from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

From September 15 to 21, the city saw a weekly jump of nearly 300 cases, bringing the total to 651. The week ending September 14 had witnessed an increase of 250 cases.

The South Delhi zone reported the highest number of cases, followed by the Najafgarh zone.

Both malaria and chikungunya cases have significantly risen compared to last year.

Between September 22 and 28, Delhi recorded 67 new malaria cases and 13 chikungunya cases.

So far this year, 430 malaria cases have been registered by September 28, compared to 321 in the same period of 2023.

Chikungunya cases have also risen, with 55 reported this year by September 28, up from 24 during the same period last year.

One dengue-related death has occurred this year, with a 54-year-old patient dying from the disease at Lok Kalyan Hospital. Last year, Delhi reported 19 dengue deaths.
