The national capital began its weekend under a warm and humid spell on Saturday, with the minimum temperature settling at 27 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The day started on a muggy note, with the relative humidity touching 80 per cent at 8:30 am, indicating sticky conditions likely to persist through the morning hours.
Weather officials have forecast thunderstorms accompanied by rain later in the day, offering a possible respite from the discomfort caused by the high humidity. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 35 degrees Celsius, the IMD said.
Cloudy skies and scattered showers are expected to bring some relief to residents who have been experiencing fluctuating weather conditions over the past few days. “The capital may see light to moderate rainfall in some areas, along with gusty winds and thunder activity by the evening,” a Met department official said.
On the air quality front, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported that the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi stood at 91 at 9 am, placing it in the ‘satisfactory’ category. The satisfactory range indicates minor breathing discomfort to sensitive individuals but generally poses no major health risks to the public.
The AQI scale, as defined by the CPCB, classifies air quality levels from ‘good’ (0-50) to ‘severe’ (401-500). An AQI between 51 and 100 is considered ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 ‘moderate’, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 ‘very poor’, and 401-500 is categorised as ‘severe’.

Despite the overcast conditions and forecast of rain, weather experts have cautioned that humidity levels may remain elevated. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the outdoors during peak afternoon hours.
The IMD will continue to monitor changing conditions throughout the day, and further updates will be issued as needed.
