
A speeding mini truck jumped a divider, rammed into a car, and then mowed down a group of pedestrians who were allegedly eating ice cream late at night in Seelampur area of northeast Delhi, an official said.
The incident occurred around 12.04 am when the driver of Tata 407 truck allegedly lost control of the vehicle near 66 Foota Road, he said.
The truck, which was coming from the direction of Sanatan Dharm Mandir, suddenly veered off its lane, leapt across the central divider and rammed into a car, Delhi police said.
“The vehicle further swerved and rammed into a group of five people standing nearby on the roadside,” said the police officer.
The injured have been identified as Noorie (27), Afsari (55), Haseen alias Sonu (25), Mehak (18) and Foolbi (25), from New Seelampur.
“All five were immediately rushed to LNJP Hospital where they are undergoing treatment,” he added.
Police teams reached the spot immediately and impounded the offending vehicle. The driver was also arrested and crime and forensic science teams were called to examine the site.

A case has been registered under sections 281 (ash driving or riding on a public way) and 125(a) (offering a gift or restoring property to someone in exchange for concealing an offense) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events, police said.
