Delhi University has announced the rescheduling of exams that were previously postponed due to the alarming flood situation currently plaguing the national capital.

In response to the dire circumstances caused by the rising water levels of the Yamuna river, the university took swift action to ensure the safety and well-being of its students.

A notification was issued on Monday, outlining the revised dates for the second-year examinations for regular, School of Open Learning, and Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board students.

According to notification the theory exams, originally slated for July 17, 18, and 19, will now be conducted on July 26, August 1, and August 2, respectively.

Similarly, the practical exams, initially scheduled for July 14, 15, and 16, have been rescheduled to August 3, 4, and 5, it reads.

The decision to postpone the exams was prompted by the escalating water levels of the Yamuna river, which have surpassed the critical mark of 205.33 meters. Having already breached the previous record of 207.49 meters last week, the river reached a staggering 208 meters on July 12. The situation remains severe, with the water level still flowing above the danger mark.

The latest measurements recorded a water level of 205.80 meters at 12 noon, showing a slight increase from the earlier reading of 205.58 meters at 9 am. The water level during Sunday night was documented at 205.52 meters. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, recognising the need for heightened vigilance and proactive measures to ensure the safety of the residents.

The university urges all affected students to make note of the revised dates and to stay informed through official channels. (With inputs from PTI)
