Delhiites wake up to light rain, more showers predicted today

The national capital on Sunday experienced light rains as the minimum temperature rose to 11.9 degrees Celsius, marking a three-notch increase above the season’s average.

Various areas in Delhi received rainfall between 5 am and 8 am, accumulating to 3 mm in the past 24 hours by 8:30 am. The India Meteorological Department forecasted a thunderstorm with rain throughout the day, coupled with moderate fog during the night.

Humidity levels were recorded at 97 percent at 8:30 am, according to the Meteorological Office. The Air Quality Index (AQI) at 10 am was categorized as ‘poor,’ with a reading of 253, as reported by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

The AQI classification ranges from ‘good’ (0-50) to ‘severe’ (401-500). The current ‘poor’ rating indicates air quality levels that may pose health concerns, emphasizing the ongoing challenges faced by the city in maintaining satisfactory air conditions.

During the week spanning from January 29 to February 4 in Delhi, the weather exhibited notable fluctuations. The national capital experienced a blend of climatic conditions, encompassing light rains and a subsequent rise in the minimum temperature, which reached 11.9 degrees Celsius—three notches above the season’s average.

Various pockets of Delhi witnessed intermittent rainfall between 5 am and 8 am, accumulating to 3 mm within the 24-hour period by 8:30 am.

The India Meteorological Department’s forecast for the week included predictions of a thunderstorm with rain during the daytime, accompanied by moderate fog in the nighttime hours. Humidity levels were recorded at a significant 97 percent at 8:30 am, adding a damp touch to the atmospheric conditions.

Despite the varied weather patterns, the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded during the week reflected ‘poor’ air quality, standing at 253 at 10 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This classification indicates levels that may pose health concerns, emphasizing the ongoing challenge faced by Delhi in maintaining satisfactory air conditions.
