The Mayor of Delhi has urged officials to ensure that the de-silting process of all drains in the city is completed by June 28, in order to avoid waterlogging issues during the upcoming monsoon season, according to officials.

According to a statement from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the de-silting of drains in Delhi has been completed up to 80 percent. The Mayor emphasised that the cleaning of all drains connected to the MCD should be finished by June 28, without exception.

To prevent waterlogging during the monsoon, the MCD highlighted the need for zone-level efforts to be undertaken. In this regard, a high-level meeting was conducted by Oberoi, during which the pre-monsoon preparedness of the capital city was reviewed.

The statement mentioned that during the meeting, officers updated the Mayor on the progress of desilting works in the drains. The MCD has reported that over 80 percent of the desilting work on small drains has been completed, and approximately 68 percent of the work on major drains has been finished.

Furthermore, officials stated that cleaning work on drains has been completed by over 90 percent in 10 out of the 12 zones of the corporation.

In addition, more than 500 pumps have been installed at vulnerable locations to facilitate the pumping out of water in case of waterlogging incidents, as informed by the MCD. (With inputs from PTI)
