DMRC begins construction on Lajpat Nagar–Saket G block corridor

DMRC: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has officially begun construction on the Lajpat Nagar–Saket G Block corridor, marking the first major Phase-IV section along the Golden Line, outside the priority corridors to enter the physical work stage.

The first test pile ceremony was held at Pushpa Bhawan near Saket. The event was attended by DMRC Managing Director Dr. Vikas Kumar, senior officials of the corporation, and representatives from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), which is executing this corridor. The test pile installation signals the formal start of major civil works.

The new Golden Line corridor will be fully elevated and comprise eight stations—Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, GK-1, Chirag Delhi, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket District Centre, Pushp Vihar and Saket G Block. Designed as a vital transit link, the corridor aims to enhance connectivity through South Delhi and support smoother intra-city travel.

Once operational, the corridor will significantly benefit important neighbourhoods such as Greater Kailash-1, Saket, Pushp Vihar, Andrews Ganj and surrounding pockets. The enhanced metro access will also support reputed schools, government offices and commercial centres in the region, easing mobility for thousands of commuters daily.

The new line will connect with the Magenta Line at Chirag Delhi and with both the Pink and Violet Lines at Lajpat Nagar. With these linkages, Lajpat Nagar is set to become a major interchange hub — functioning as a triple interchange station and offering improved cross-city connectivity across the metro network.

DMRC confirmed that work on the other two Phase-IV extensions—Inderlok to Indraprastha and Rithala to Narela—is progressing steadily, with tendering and pre-construction activities underway. The corporation said these projects will collectively strengthen Delhi’s metro infrastructure.
