The Delhi University (DU) announced that students who haven’t been able to clear a single remaining paper despite exhausting all special chances to obtain a degree will now receive additional grace marks, according to a senior official from the varsity on Tuesday.

These students, who have struggled to pass one remaining paper despite utilising all available opportunities, will be granted 10 extra marks as grace points to secure their degree, the official confirmed.

“In instances where a student hasn’t been able to obtain their degree due to failing in a single paper, the Delhi University will award these students an additional 10 marks, enabling them to pass the exam and earn their degree,” said the official.

This provision aims to assist students whose degree completion was affected by the COVID-19 outbreak in India, especially those whose degrees were expected to be completed during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic sessions. It extends to those who participated in the centenary chance limited to four papers, elucidated the official.

This measure is also applicable to M.Phil students in addition to those enrolled in undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programs, as outlined in the proposal document approved by the Executive Council, the university’s highest decision-making body.

The decision has been made to alleviate the challenges faced by students who were unable to take exams during the pandemic due to various unforeseen circumstances such as remote learning, limited access to resources, health concerns, or those whose degree completion has been stalled due to failure in a single paper.

As per the approved proposal, the university will establish a committee comprising academic advisors, faculty members, and administrators to assess requests from students seeking to avail these grace marks.

Students will need to provide valid reasons for their inability to clear the single paper or for extending their degree completion period. The feasibility of each case will be evaluated individually.

The committee will also decide whether to conduct a special chance examination for these students to facilitate the completion of their degrees. (With inputs from PTI)
