Indira Gandhi International Airport and eight hospitals in Delhi found themselves targeted by bomb threat emails on Sunday, according to reports from the Delhi Fire Services. This alarming situation comes on the heels of a similar incident where 150 schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails, causing widespread panic among students, parents and school authorities.

The hospitals that received threats included Burari Hospital, Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, Janakpuri Super Speciality Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay, and Dabri’s Dada Dev Hospital, a senior Delhi Fire Services official said.

Reacting to the bomb threat to Hindu Rao Hospital and other hospitals, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said that the administration of the hospital came to know about a bomb threat received by the SHO of the concerned police station.

The SHO received an email regarding the presence of a bomb in the premises of the hospital. The officer inspected the premises with a dog squad and bomb detection squad. No threat was found. Additional Medical Superintendent of Hindu Rao Hospital, Nodal officer, exigency officer and security incharge of the hospital also inspected the premises, the MCD said in a statement.

“Few openings were instructed to be closed. Directions to increase security checks at night and increased questioning and inspection issued. OT, emergency, CCU and blood bank are equipped for any adverse event. The hospital is on high alert. Its employees have also been asked to be vigilant”, the MCD further added.

Moreover, in response to the threats, rigorous safety measures were immediately implemented at each location. At Burari Hospital, for instance, safety protocols were meticulously reviewed, and the premises were thoroughly inspected. Emergency services, including fire engines, were swiftly deployed to the affected areas, where search operations are currently underway.

Usha Rangnani, DCP of IGI Airport, said enhanced security measures had been activated at the airport premises. She emphasised that no suspicious items had been discovered and urged the public to remain calm and not pay heed to rumors.

Delhi Police, with bomb disposal teams and canine units, promptly responded to the threat at Burari Hospital, conducting thorough checks to ensure public safety. Deputy Commissioner of Police M K Meena said no suspicious objects had been found within the hospital premises.
