Pre-monsoon showers over the last three days have brought down the rain deficit in Delhi to 34% and the maximum temperature to around 30 degrees Celsius. As per the Safdarjung Observatory, the maximum temperature recorded was 30.7 degrees Celsius – the lowest for June since June 17, 2013.
In the last four days, Delhi measured 23.8 mm of rain as against the normal of 36.3 mm since 1 June 2022.
President of meteorology at Skymet Weather, G P Sharma, has stated that the wind pattern in the Indo-Gangetic plains will change following the cyclonic circulation which will come up over parts of West Bengal, north Odisha and adjoining Bangladesh in the next two to three days. He stated that the circulation will start the typical easterly flow which is essential for the advance of rains into northwest India. IMD senior scientist RK Jenamani too has put it on record that no forecast of a system could stall the progress of the monsoon.
The monsoon will cover several parts of northwest India between 23 to 29 June, as it has progressed into parts of Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal, most parts of Jharkhand and Bihar, and some parts of southeast Uttar Pradesh.
Last year, the monsoon in Delhi reached in July – most delayed in 19 years. Now, the IMD has predicted its arrival two weeks before the usual date.
