On Thursday, Delhi University’s (DU) highest decision-making body – Executive Council – approved the first-semester syllabi of the four-year undergraduate programmes (FYUP). The syllabi are based on the newly introduced Under Graduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF). However, council members Seema Das and Rajpal Singh Pawar expressed their dissent against the decision.

The Academic Council approved the curriculum on 3 August and presented it to the Executive Council for further approval. In  February, the Executive Council approved the UGCF-2022 as formulated by a National Education Policy (NEP) cell.

The syllabi, which will be implemented from the academic year 2022-23, comprise over 100 undergraduate courses. Some of the courses are BA (Hons) in Business Economics, BA (Hons) Multi-Media and Mass Communication, BSc in Electronic Science and BSc (Hons) in Microbiology.

The syllabi have been prepared by course committees and passed by a standing committee. A course committee comprises five professors, two from the department concerned and three college professors.

Under the FYUP programme structure,  BA programme, B Com programme and B Sc (General) courses will be discarded. Credit scores for every course will be introduced instead. The credit score points would be 148 for all the courses for the first three years.

In addition to the existing courses for honours, the new programme shall include the following additional courses in the first three years of the programme: Language and Literature, Social and Emotional learning, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Co-curricular, Ethics and Culture. In the four year program, students can choose between pursuing the Bachelors of Arts / Science / Commerce (Honours) in Discipline, or any of the above disciplines with research.
