A labourer died, and another sustained serious burn injuries when a fire broke out during repair work on a gas pipeline in Delhi’s Pradeep Vihar area, police reported on Sunday.

“At 10:53 pm on Saturday, a PCR call alerted authorities to the fire in an IGL gas pipeline in Pradeep Vihar,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Manoj Kumar Meena.

Upon arrival, police immediately notified the Delhi Fire Services department, who swiftly dispatched two fire tenders to the scene. “A team from Burari police station cordoned off the area, facilitating the firefighting efforts. The flames were extinguished, and the leak contained with the assistance of IGL workers,” added the DCP.

The injured labourers, Raj Kumar (42) and Parveen, both employed by an authorised IGL service provider, were caught in the blaze. Sadly, Parveen succumbed to his injuries, while Raj Kumar was rushed to LNJP Hospital for treatment, he said.

Police registered a case under sections 285 ( acting negligently with fire), 337 ( Negligently as to endanger human life) and 304A ( death due to negligence). An FIR has been filed, and investigations are underway, Meena confirmed. (With inputs from PTI)
