In a shocking incident that was reported from Gurugram on Sunday, a 40-year-old woman fell out of a moving auto-rickshaw while fighting off a thief on bike who tried to snatch her phone. The woman, a manager in a private company, was admitted to a private hospital after sustaining serious injuries.
The victim, Kirat Kaur Kausar, could only record her statement on Wednesday as she was unconscious for two days following the incident. An FIR has been registered at the Sushant Lok police station against an unknown person under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 379-B.
While speaking to PTI, Kausar said that Gurugram isn’t a safe city. “I was lucky no other vehicle was behind the auto otherwise I would have been crushed”, she said.
The victim, who is a resident of sector 56, left from her office around 9.30 pm on the day the incident took place. Upon reaching the rapid metro station in sector 42, the thief – riding a bike – approached the auto, came near to it, and grabbed her phone.
As per the statement, Kausar did not give up her phone easily and was fighting off the thief. But she fell, while the biker, who was wearing a helmet, managed to flee with the phone. The auto driver dropped her home, after which her father took her to the hospital.
According to Sanjeev Kumar, additional SHO of Sushant Lok police station, the team is investigating the case and is currently analyzing the footage from CCTV cameras to identify the snatcher.
