Gurugram: Massive blaze guts over 30 shanties in slum

Gurugram: A massive fire gutted more than 30 shanties in a slum area near the Wazirabad village, Gurugram, on Saturday afternoon, officials said.

The fire spread rapidly after some mini cooking gas cylinders exploded in the slum located near Wazirabad in Sector 52, and it took around two hours to bring the flames under control, a fire official said.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire spread so fast that people did not even get a chance to take out their belongings from the shanties.

Initial investigation suggests that a short-circuit in the slum may have triggered the fire, the official said.

“Eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot, which doused the flames after around two hours. The exact cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained. The blaze gutted more than 30 shanties,” Naresh Kumar, a fire officer from Sector 29 fire station, said.

Delhi: Teen found murdered in Seelampur park

Delhi crime: Two people, including a minor, have been apprehended for the murder of a 16-year-old boy at a public park in northeast Delhi’s Seelampur, an official said on Saturday. The incident came to light around 11:30 pm on Thursday, when police, during routine patrolling, entered the Central Park in Seelampur and discovered the blood-soaked body of the teenager, identified as Rehan alias Seelampuriya, lying between a bench and a walkway, he said. “The police immediately alerted the local police station, following which senior officers and a police team reached the spot. The victim was rushed to the JPC Hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” a senior police officer said.

Yip Yew Chong returns to his favourite canvas – Lodhi Colony

The vibrant murals of Lodhi Colony have long captured the imagination of visitors and residents alike. Last week, one of the artists behind these striking works returned to revisit his contribution—Yip Yew Chong. Yip, 56, is a renowned muralist from Singapore. Originally an accountant, his art often depicts scenes of yesteryear, heritage, and everyday life. This visit marked his first return to Lodhi Colony since 2019, and he was accompanied by his wife. The couple headed straight to the home of Anil Negi, a Lodhi Colony resident whom Yip had befriended while painting the area’s walls.
