In a tragic incident in Dwarka’s Baba Haridas Nagar, a 41-year-old home guard lost his life when a pickup van collided with a Delhi Police vehicle, police said on Tuesday.
Assistant sub-inspector Mahesh Kumar and Home Guard Dharampal were conducting their routine patrolling duty in a PCR van during the night of October 22 and 23, according to authorities.
The collision occurred on the Najafgarh-Bahadurgarh Road, causing severe injuries to both officers. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where Dharampal, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries. Mahesh, after receiving medical treatment, was later discharged, an official said.
Law enforcement swiftly took action, registering a case against the driver of the pickup van, identified as Jai Lal (23), under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. Lal was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident, the police confirmed. (With inputs from PTI)
