A passenger reportedly assaulted an IndiGo pilot during an announcement about a delay in takeoff at Delhi airport, police said on Monday.
A video of the incident, which occurred on Sunday evening, has circulated on social media.
A Delhi Police official said, “We have received a complaint and are initiating appropriate legal action.”
In the brief video, fellow crew members can be observed shouting at the passenger following the assault on the pilot.
As per police statements, the co-pilot of flight number 6E 2175, operating between Delhi and Goa, along with other security personnel, filed a complaint against a passenger identified as Sahil Katariya, accusing him of assaulting and misbehaving during the flight.
The complaint asserted that Katariya behaved disruptively, assaulted the co-pilot, and caused a disturbance inside the aircraft.
The passenger’s agitation stemmed from the flight being delayed for over an hour, according to the police.
A case has been registered against the passenger under sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), and 290 (punishment for creating public nuisance) of the IPC, along with section 22 of the Aircraft Rules. Investigation into the matter is underway, confirmed another police officer. (With inputs from PTI)
