Kanwar Yatra: The Delhi Police has started holding meetings with the kanwar camp organisers across its 15 districts to ensure a hassle-free experience for the pilgrims, officials said on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the South district police, led by DCP Ankit Chauhan and Additional DCP Ravi Bishnoi, held a meeting with all assistant commissioners of police (ACPs), all station house officers (SHOs), and several Kanwar camp organisers.

During the interaction, the officers briefed the organisers about safety protocols and amenities to be provided at the camps.

Chauhan emphasised keeping proper fire safety equipment and addressing traffic issues.

The purpose of these meetings is to help police review preparations, streamline coordination with civic agencies, and ensure ‘kanwariyas’ have a smooth experience staying in the national capital.

Chauhan said that police will be deployed around each kanwar camp.

Considering the monsoon season, officers are coordinating with the electricity department to fix anything broken to prevent instances of electric shock.

“Special attention is being given to routes taken by the kanwariyas. All identified routes will be surveyed and verified by local police teams. We are also coordinating with the Delhi Traffic Police to regulate the traffic flow, especially at major intersections where congestion is common,” the officer said.

“We are also working with MCD and PWD to ensure that roads are clear and free of potholes. It is our priority to ensure a safe passage for the Kanwariyas,” he added.

Another officer said police will set up dedicated helpline numbers that will operate round-the-clock for the pilgrims to call in distress.

The kanwar yatra, observed in the month of Shravan, sees thousands of people from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and other neighbouring states carrying holy water from the Ganga river to offer at Shiv temples.
