A 20-year-old man, staying in a north Delhi night shelter, allegedly bludgeoned a fellow resident’s head with a stone over rape bid.

The accused, hailing from Bihar, resided in the Khoya Mandi ‘rain basera (night shelter)’ in Mori Gate and was subsequently apprehended in Patna.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) MK Meena revealed that the police received a PCR call on January 19, reporting the discovery of a body at the Mori Gate DDA park.

The victim had apparent signs of violence, including blood clots over the mouth and cut marks above the eye. Following a forensic examination, the police transferred the body to a mortuary and initiated a murder case.

Through the analysis of over 50 CCTV camera footage and local intelligence, the police identified the victim as Pramod Kumar Shukla from Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun district. Shukla, who worked at a shop in Khoya Mandi, resided in a night shelter.

Further investigation uncovered that Shukla was last seen with a fellow resident named Rajesh, who was subsequently apprehended in Patna.

During interrogation, Rajesh confessed that Shukla had been pressuring him into engaging in unnatural sex acts. In response to this coercion, Rajesh formulated a plan to “eliminate” Shukla, carrying out the act of murder on January 17, according to the police.
