Mayor’s ‘Ab Delhi Hoga Saaf’ campaign to kick off from Jan 10 under sanitation drive

Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi announced on Tuesday the commencement of a comprehensive sanitation drive across all 12 zones, scheduled to begin on January 10. Emphasizing the significance of the Ab Delhi Hogi Saaf campaign, Oberoi expressed confidence that the city would witness notable improvements in cleanliness within the next one-and-a-half months.

Describing the initiative as a “jan jagaran abhiyan” (public awareness campaign), the mayor urged the support of the masses, MLAs, councillors, and everyone invested in the welfare of Delhi. Oberoi shared a detailed five-day schedule for the campaign, starting from City-Sadar Paharganj Zone and spanning all assembly constituencies and municipal wards.

The campaign, set to run until the first week of March, aims to address garbage-related issues in each gully corner of Delhi. The 250 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, organized into 12 zones, will be covered during the campaign.

Highlighting the commitment of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to the cleanliness drive, Oberoi assured that Delhi would witness a neater, cleaner, and better environment in 1.5 months. She underscored the collective effort involving officials, public representatives, and civic leaders in achieving this objective.

Oberoi disclosed that 70-80% of garbage vulnerable points have already been eliminated, and these sites have been beautified. The focus will now extend to addressing similar points and making authorized dumping points more presentable through proper fencing and cement blockage.

As part of the preparations for the upcoming Swachh Survekshan, Oberoi expressed optimism about Delhi’s performance and urged all stakeholders to continue their cooperation. The “Ab Delhi Hogi Saaf” campaign, initiated on August 12, serves as a comprehensive endeavor to enhance the city’s overall cleanliness and waste management practices.
