Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad are under a yellow alert for light rain and thunderstorms, while Gurugram is on orange alert, indicating a likelihood of moderate rainfall.
According to the IMD, thunderstorms with rain are expected, with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 33°C. The weather department has also forecast isolated heavy rainfall for Haryana and Chandigarh.
Heavy and continuous rain over the past few days has caused the Yamuna River to breach the 207-metre danger mark for the fifth time since 1963, reaching 207.44 metres by late Wednesday. The rising waters have flooded parts of the city, including the Nigambodh Ghat, disrupting cremation services.
On Wednesday, Delhi recorded its third consecutive day of rainfall, pushing the season’s total past 1,000 mm, well above the average 774 mm. Several areas in Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram experienced severe waterlogging, prompting school closures in some districts.
While Delhi Airport has not issued any operational alerts, SpiceJet has cautioned passengers that bad weather could impact flight schedules.
