Earlier this month, the Supreme Court had ordered for the demolition of Supertech’s two towers in Noida’s sector 93A – Apex and Ceyane – as they were built in violation of norms. Today, Ceyane tower was fully rigged with explosives, as the charging process continued in full swing. The nearly 100-metre tall structures – Apex and Ceyene – are scheduled for demolition at 2.30 pm on 28 August.

The charging and rigging of these structures with explosives started on 13 August by Edifice Engineering, a firm based in Delhi. While the work for Ceyane, which has 29 floors, was completed on Wednesday, the work on Apex tower, which has 32 floors, is underway. Both the towers were planned to have 40 floors each.  “The charging process is expected to be completed next week,” an official told PTI.

Families living in 1396 flats in the immediate vicinity of Sector 93A’s Supertech twin towers will have to move out by 21 August. The residents, nearly 5,000 of them, have also been directed by authorities to take their vehicles with them as no vehicle will be allowed within a 100-metre radius of the blast site. Power supply to the towers will also be cut off post evacuation.

According to a Noida Authority official, almost 35,000 cubic metre rubble will be left post the demolition, of which,, 6,000 to 7,000 cubic metre would gather in the basement of twin towers. The plan for debris management is yet to be finalised by the officials.

The demolition has been scheduled for 2:30 pm, and the evacuation is recommended to be five hours ahead of the demolition. However, officials have pointed out that there may be a possibility that residents will be asked to evacuate a day prior to the demolition. A final decision on the time of evacuation will be decided by the representatives of the RWAs, the police brass and Noida Authority officers in a meeting which will be held next week.

Tower managers will oversee the evacuations, and no one other than the core blast team and designated officers will be allowed in the excursion five hours before the blast and two hours after it.
