Operation Sindoor: Around 90 flights to and from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport were cancelled on Thursday, including five international departures, as airspace restrictions came into effect following military action across the border, a source confirmed.

The cancellations occurred between 8 AM and 2 PM, largely due to the temporary closure of around 27 airports across the country. The closures are part of the security protocols under Operation Sindoor—a retaliatory strike launched by Indian armed forces on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation was carried out in response to last month’s terror attack in Pahalgam that left at least 26 dead.

At Delhi airport, the disruptions included 46 cancelled domestic departures and 33 arrivals, along with six international arrivals and five departures, the source said.

Despite the disruptions, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), the airport operator, assured passengers that operations across all terminals and its four runways remain normal.

“Changing airspace conditions have impacted some flights. We are working closely with all stakeholders to minimise disruption,” DIAL said in a post on X.

According to official sources, a total of 430 domestic flights were cancelled on Thursday, with aviation authorities announcing the closure of operations at 27 airports across the country until May 10.
