Several parts of Delhi witnessed showers overnight, with the weather department forecasting a continuation of light rain and overcast skies throughout Thursday.
Rainfall began in certain areas of Delhi around 12:30 am, with the Palam weather station recording 1.2 mm of precipitation. The showers brought some respite to the dry weather, but the overall conditions remained cool and cloudy.
The city recorded a minimum temperature of 11.0 degrees Celsius, which is 3.5 degrees higher than the normal temperature for this period of the season. Despite the rain, Delhi’s air quality remained in the “poor” category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 264.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature during the day is expected to hover around 22 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has also predicted light rain and a predominantly cloudy sky for the day, indicating that similar weather conditions might prevail over the next few hours. While the rain brings a slight relief from rising pollution levels, the poor air quality continues to be a concern for residents.
To put the AQI levels into perspective, a reading between 0 and 50 is categorized as “good,” 51 to 100 is “satisfactory,” 101 to 200 is considered “moderate,” 201 to 300 falls under “poor,” 301 to 400 is labeled as “very poor,” and 401 to 500 indicates “severe” air quality. With an AQI of 264, the city remains in the “poor” range, which can cause breathing discomfort for sensitive groups and individuals with respiratory issues.

The showers, though light, brought a temporary change in the weather pattern, offering some relief from the dry winter. However, the persistent issue of poor air quality continues to overshadow any temporary weather reprieve.
