Rain likely in Delhi, yellow alert issued

More rains are predicted in Delhi for Wednesday after a day of heavy rains triggered waterlogging in streets and several neighbourhoods. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the day.

Light to moderate rainfall is likely at different hours of the day at isolated places across the city. The IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky.

Relative humidity was recorded at 92 per cent at 8.30 am.

The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 32 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature settled at 25.7 degrees Celsius, 1.6 notches below normal.

Station wise data showed that the minimum temperature was 24.4 degrees Celsius at Palam, 2.7 notches below normal; 25.2 degrees Celsius at Lodhi Road, 0.8 notch below normal; 22.5 degrees Celsius at Ridge, three notches below normal; and 24.4 degrees Celsius at Ayanagar, 1.6 notches below normal.

The city recorded rainfall at several weather stations in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am, with Safdarjung receiving 57.6 mm, Lodhi Road 68.8 mm, Ayanagar 51.5 mm, Ridge 40.6 mm and Palam 27.8 mm.

Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 71 in the “satisfactory” category at 9 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board’s AQI scale, a reading between 0 and 50 is considered “good”, 51-100 “satisfactory”, 101-200 “moderate”, 201-300 “poor”, 301-400 “very poor” and 401-500 “severe.”
