
People offer Eid prayers at the Jama Masjid
The Ramzan moon has been sighted in various parts of the country, and Muslims in India will commence fasting on Tuesday, as confirmed by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind.
A meeting of the Ruyat-e-Hilal Committee, presided over by Maulana Niaz Ahmed Farooqui, Secretary of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, convened on Monday at 1, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. The committee verified the sighting of the moon in several regions, said release from the Muslim organisation.
“Therefore, it is announced that the first day of Ramzan will be observed on Tuesday, March 12, 2024,” the statement added.
Imam Mufti Mukarram Ahmad of Fatehpuri Masjid also confirmed that the moon sighting had occurred, signaling the commencement of fasting on Tuesday.
He extended greetings on the occasion and affirmed that the crescent moon was visibly observed by many individuals both at the mosque and across the nation.
Millions of Muslims worldwide eagerly anticipate the sighting of the crescent moon, heralding the start of the sacred month.
During Ramzan, Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn to dusk following the pre-dawn meal ‘sehri,’ breaking their fast at sunset with ‘iftar.’ The culmination of the month is celebrated with Eid. (With inputs from PTI)
