Tomato prices in Delhi have soared to Rs 70-80 per kg due to reduced supply caused by a recent heatwave.
Mother Dairy, a major supplier in Delhi-NCR, is selling tomatoes at Rs 75 per kg at its ‘Safal’ outlets, while local vendors offer them for Rs 70-80 per kg.
A Mother Dairy spokesperson explained that the heatwave in northern hilly regions, key areas for tomato cultivation, has significantly reduced production, leading to limited supply and price fluctuations.
Online platforms Otipy and Blinkit are pricing tomatoes at Rs 80 per kg, with local vendors attributing the high retail prices to a sharp increase in wholesale prices, now at Rs 50-60 per kg.
