Satya Niketan collapse: CM Gupta meets injured students at AIIMS, assures families of all help

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday visited the AIIMS Trauma Centre and met the injured students and their families following the building collapse in Satya Niketan, assuring them of full support and the best possible medical treatment.

Gupta said 12 people were rescued from the collapsed building, of whom seven had died, including two labourers.

“One of the labourers is admitted here and has sustained a leg injury. Currently, two students are stable and will be discharged today, while one student is critical and is in the ICU,” she said

Seeking details from doctors about the condition of the injured students and the treatment being provided to them. She directed the doctors to ensure the best possible medical care and said there should be no shortcomings in the treatment.

The government will bear the full cost of treatment and provide all necessary assistance, according to the Chief Minister’s Office.

“Saving the lives of the children is the government’s top priority. No shortcoming will be allowed in their treatment,” Gupta said.

Assuring the families of the injured students of all possible help from the government, she said, “Whatever help these families need, the government stands with them.”

Gupta said the families of the students who died had taken their bodies and the government was in touch with them.

The chief minister said the owner of the building involved in the incident had been arrested and strict action would be taken against those found responsible based on the investigation.

She said the immediate priority was to save the lives of the injured students and provide them with the best medical care.

Following the incident, the chief minister has directed a comprehensive safety review of PG hostels across Delhi.

The MCD has been directed to inspect all PG hostels under its jurisdiction and check building safety, requisite permissions, Fire Safety NOCs, structural stability certificates and other prescribed norms, according to a statement.

Officials at the zonal level have been asked to oversee the inspections and prepare detailed reports, it said.

Gupta also directed the MCD to demolish dilapidated buildings near the accident site that have been declared unsafe in the interest of public safety.

“The building adjacent to the collapsed building has been declared dangerous and it will be demolished tomorrow,” she said.

The statement said Delhi Fire Service personnel were systematically removing the students’ belongings from the building and bringing them out safely.

The chief minister also directed that no construction activity of any kind be carried out at the site until safety is ensured and that activities posing a risk to workers’ lives be stopped immediately.

“No compromise with the safety of citizens will be accepted at any level in Delhi,” it added.
