Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi announced on Wednesday that a decision has been made by a court-appointed panel to lift the seal on the first and second floors of shops situated in local shopping complexes across the city.
She mentioned that the sealing process had commenced in 2017-18 with these complexes in the Defence Colony area, following the directives of the Monitoring Committee due to alleged violations of building bylaws.
Oberoi highlighted the formation of a judicial committee by the Supreme Court to examine the legal aspects of the situation.
“In a move providing relief to traders, it has been decided that these shops in the complexes will be desealed after a period of six years,” the mayor informed the press.
However, specific details regarding the initiation of the desealing process were not provided by the mayor. “We will engage with relevant officials and promptly share those specifics,” she mentioned in response to queries about the process’s modalities.
Regarding the desealing procedure for their properties, individuals will need to submit applications to the concerned department and fulfill any additional financial obligations, as stated by the mayor.
Oberoi emphasised that there might be supplementary FAR (floor area ratio) charges, especially if any basements were utilised for commercial or professional activities.
The areas where traders will benefit from this decision include Defence Colony, Old Rajendra Nagar, New Rajendra Nagar, Green Park, Hauz Khas, and South Extension-I, according to Oberoi. (With inputs from PTI)
