Police said that the accused has been identified as Mohan Kumar (26), a native of Bihar. Kumar’s relative has been sent to the juvenile justice board (JJB) home due to age verification conditions.
According to police, the complainant reported that he along with his family members left for the US to attend a family function on 4 July. He handed over the house keys to Kumar who was their servant for the last five years.
The complainant was informed by his other servant and relatives on 18 July that Kumar had committed theft at his house and had stolen their car, cash and jewellery worth approximately Rs 8-10 crore, a senior police officer stated.
The officer added that during the investigation, police checked the footage from CCTV cameras in the area where the accused was spotted carrying a suitcase in the complainant’s car. The accused drove the car to Ramesh Nagar Metro Station, where he left the vehicle.
There was another person in the car with Kumar. The second person was identified as Kumar’s distant relative who came to Punjabi Bagh a day before the incident took place, the officer stated.
A police team went to Bihar and apprehended the relative from Sheohar district on Sunday. On his instance, Kumar was nabbed on Monday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Ghanshyam Bansal said.
Police said that a large amount of stolen jewellery in addition to Rs 5,04,900 in cash was retrieved from them. Efforts are on to recover the remaining stolen jewellery and cash, police added.
