A tragic incident unfolded in northwest Delhi’s Begumpur late Wednesday night when two siblings died and their elderly father was critically injured after being electrocuted at their home.
The victims have been identified as Vivek (26), a welding worker, and his sister Anju (28), who was recently married. Their father, 65-year-old Kalicharan, is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital, police said.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajeev Ranjan, the incident took place around 10 PM when Vivek reportedly came into contact with an iron gate on the staircase that had live electrical wiring wrapped around it. Hearing his cries, Kalicharan rushed to help but was also electrocuted. Anju, who attempted to intervene, met the same fate.
Police received a distress call at 10.56 PM from a neighbour, Abhishek, who pleaded with authorities to cut the power supply, saying, “Yahan light katwa do, teen aadmi chipke huye hain” (Please disconnect the electricity, three people are being electrocuted).

By the time a police team reached the spot, locals had already rushed the victims to Aggarsain Hospital in Rohini. Vivek and Anju were declared dead on arrival, while Kalicharan was admitted in a critical condition.
A crime team along with officials from North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL) inspected the scene. Preliminary findings pointed to dangerously exposed and unregulated electrical wiring around the staircase of the 50-square-yard house.
The bodies of the deceased were later shifted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police said further investigation is underway and action may be taken against those responsible for the unsafe electrical setup.
