Delhi: The Delhi Police recovered the body of an unidentified man from a locked kitchen in New Chauhanpur, North East Delhi, on August 12.
At around 1:42 PM, the Dayalpur Police Station received a call about blood seeping from a locked room in Mata Wali Gali. Officers arriving at the scene detected a foul odour coming from a kitchen on the first floor. Breaking in, they found the decomposed body of a man.
According to a senior police officer, no identification documents were recovered from the room or on the body. “We are checking with the neighbours to ascertain the identity of the person,” the officer said.
Investigations revealed that the kitchen had been rented to a person who stored plaster of Paris there. The tenant is currently untraceable. The body has been sent for post-mortem to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, while the crime scene remains under examination.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and police teams have been deployed to identify the deceased and apprehend those involved.
Man found hanging from tree in Sarai Rohilla
A day earlier, on August 11, the decomposed body of another unidentified man was found hanging from a tree in a wooded area in Sarai Rohilla, North Delhi.
Residents alerted the police after noticing a foul smell from the spot. A team from Sarai Rohilla Police Station, accompanied by crime scene and forensic experts, secured the area.
Initial inspection suggested that the body had been hanging for several days. “The scene has been preserved, and forensic experts are examining the site. The body has been sent for a post-mortem to determine the cause and time of death,” a senior police officer said.
Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning locals to determine whether the man had been seen in the vicinity before the discovery. “All possibilities, including foul play and suicide, are being investigated,” the officer added.
Earlier case of minor’s death in Dayalpur still lingers in public memory
The Dayalpur area had also drawn public attention earlier this year when the body of a minor girl was found inside a suitcase in June.
On June 8, tensions erupted after the body of a nine-year-old girl was discovered in a neighbour’s home in Nehru Vihar, prompting outrage and protests from locals and the girl’s family, who suspected sexual assault and murder. Police and paramilitary forces were deployed to maintain order.
The girl, a resident of Nehru Vihar, had gone to deliver ice to a relative’s house around 7 PM on June 7 but never returned. Her parents, alarmed by her absence, began searching the area and learned she was last seen entering a nearby house. Her father broke into the locked property and found her body stuffed inside a bloodstained suitcase.
She was rushed to a local clinic and then to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital in Shastri Park, where she was declared dead.
A call to the Dayalpur Police Station was made at 8:41 PM. Officers confirmed her death, with initial medical observations noting facial injuries and possible sexual assault. Forensic teams examined the scene, and a case was registered under relevant sections of the BNS and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
