Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, stated on Sunday that he wants the city’s public schools to be the best in the world so that students from other countries will come here to study.
Kejriwal assured teachers who had been abroad for training that he would continue to do so and that they had the backing of both the people of Delhi and the nation.
“Some people consider it an expenditure, but it is an investment. I feel that you can construct four bridges less and four roads less, but we should provide the best exposure and training to our teachers. They will groom students who will build roads and bridges in the future,” he said.
He emphasised on the importance of better learning experience and the role of his government to provide it.
“We have to compete with international schools. There was a time when we wanted government schools to be better than private schools. This has happened. Now we want our schools to become the world’s best. We imagine being the best,” he said.
The chief minister noted that there is still room for improvement and stated that the goal is to expose instructors to the best methods around the globe.
“There is lots to achieve. Our critics also accept that there is a huge change coming in Delhi’s education system,” he said as he mentioned the role of people in achieving quality education.
Kejriwal said before 2015, schools were in an extremely bad state and hailed the teachers for the change.
“Schools used to function in tents. All those schools functioning under tents have now become talent schools. Earlier, there were no desks, leakages from roofs happened, and there were no security schools but we have done a lot in terms of infrastructure,” he added.
He said that in addition to improved facilities, the school’s culture had also transformed, with students now giving teachers high marks and significant improvements in the students’ test scores.
Kejriwal also added that the government school students have cleared JEE without coaching.
“I also cleared engineering exams but had taken coaching for it,” he said.
