A woman and her two sons have been arrested in connection with an alleged road rage incident involving the assault of a 50-year-old head constable in the Khayala area of west Delhi, police said.
According to the authorities, the three individuals reportedly attacked head constable MG Rajesh using an iron rod and bricks, rendering him unconscious on a West Delhi street following a minor collision between their car and his vehicle.
This road rage incident transpired on September 15 near Raghubir Nagar’s Ghode Wala temple. The Delhi Police subsequently arrested the three suspects on Monday.
Vichitra Veer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) said, “We received information about the incident in which a 50-year-old man was assaulted by three individuals in the vicinity of Raghubir Nagar.”
“During the investigation, it was revealed that the victim is a head constable with the Delhi Police. An FIR was filed, and on Monday, we took into custody three individuals – a woman and her two sons – in connection with the case,” Veer said.
According to the complainant, he was on his way home from work in Tilak Nagar when, at approximately 11 pm, a car overtook his vehicle in the vicinity of a slum near Ghoda Wala temple, and its rear end made contact with his car.
He subsequently parked his car by the roadside, cautioned the occupants of the other vehicle to drive safely, and continued on his way home.
However, the same car abruptly overtook him once more and obstructed his path, as recounted by the head constable. Two young men reportedly emerged from the car, shouting at him and demanding that he exit his vehicle, with a woman also emerging from the car.
Suddenly, one of the men grabbed a brick and shattered his vehicle’s windshield, forcibly removing him from his car and subjecting him to a severe beating, according to the complainant.
The head constable maintained that, in an attempt to preserve his life, he pushed one of the men aside, but the woman purportedly assaulted him with a brick. Subsequently, one of the men overpowered him, while the other struck him with an iron rod, causing him to lose consciousness.
Following the assault, the suspects fled the scene, leaving Rajesh with severe injuries. Rajesh is currently stationed at the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Ashok Vihar.
Based on his complaint, an FIR has been registered at the Khyala police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 279 (rash driving), 307 (attempt to murder), and 34 (common intention), as well as section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. (With inputs from PTI)
