A tragic incident occurred in the Pandav Nagar area of east Delhi on Tuesday, resulting in the unfortunate demise of a 54-year-old Delhi Police Sub-Inspector. According to authorities, the incident also left a pick-up vehicle driver injured.
Early in the morning, the police received a PCR call alerting them to a traffic accident involving a police officer. Sub-Inspector Gangasaran and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ajay Tomar were on their routine patrol duty, traveling in a Gypsy vehicle with Tomar at the wheel, as confirmed by a senior police official.
At approximately 5:30 am, while conducting a routine inspection, the two officers pulled over a Bolero pick-up truck for a routine check. Sub-Inspector Gangasaran exited the vehicle, and the truck driver, Ramgopal, also disembarked to cooperate with the inspection.
Tragically, as they stood on the roadside, a Honda Amaze car approached at high speed from the Ghaziabad direction, heading towards Sarai Kale Khan. The speeding car collided with Sub-Inspector Gangasaran and Ramgopal from behind, as reported by the officer.
In a swift response, ASI Ajay Tomar, aided by Rajkumar, the Bolero driver’s assistant, rushed the injured Sub-Inspector Gangasaran and Ramgopal to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. Despite the medical efforts, Sub-Inspector Gangasaran succumbed to his injuries during the treatment.
Sub-Inspector Gangasaran is survived by his wife and five children, according to police sources. Ramgopal, who resides in Nangloi, in Outer Delhi, was subsequently transferred to Safdarjung Hospital for further medical attention.
The incident site underwent thorough examination by a crime investigation team, leading to the registration of a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 304A (causing death by negligence), as stated by the police.
At present, the individual responsible for the accident remains at large, and an intensive investigation is in progress to identify the vehicle and apprehend the offender.
