A 22-year-old woman lost her life, and at least six others were injured when a car struck them in the Ghazipur area of east Delhi on Wednesday, according to police reports.

Following the incident around 9 pm, locals reacted by damaging the offending vehicle and assaulting its driver, who sustained serious injuries and has been hospitalised, authorities stated.

A video circulating on social media shows a group of angry individuals smashing the vehicle’s windscreen and windows, attempting to break its doors, and ultimately flipping it over.

Residents also claimed the driver was intoxicated. However, police stated that a medical examination would determine if alcohol was a factor.

“Seven individuals with injuries were taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, including five women and two men,” stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (east) Apoorva Gupta.

Sita Devi, a resident of Ghaziabad, succumbed to her injuries, according to police.

The victims were from Khoda Colony on the Delhi-Ghaziabad border, authorities added.

“The suspect is in police custody, and legal proceedings are underway,” the officer confirmed. (With inputs from PTI)
