A woman and her nine-year-old daughter sustained injuries in a fire incident at a house in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden, reportedly caused by a gas cylinder leakage, according to police on Tuesday.
The fire department received a call about the incident at 11.30 am on Monday, prompting the dispatch of two fire tenders to the scene. Firefighters rescued Omvati (35) and her daughter Hemlata from the house.
“Omvati sustained 75 per cent burn injuries, while Hemlata got 20 per cent burn injuries. Both are currently receiving treatment at the hospital,” stated a senior Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Vichitra Veer mentioned that upon receiving the PCR call, local police, fire tenders, BSES lineman, and three individuals from DDMA promptly responded to the scene. Despite challenges posed by narrow lanes, all agencies collaborated to control the situation.
Omvati and her daughter were initially taken to DDU Hospital but later transferred to Safdarjung Hospital, as per the police officer. “Based on initial investigations, the fire’s cause, as reported by the fire brigade and crime team, was attributed to a gas cylinder leakage.” (With inputs from PTI)
