Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently in judicial custody until April 15 in the excise policy case, spent his first night in Tihar jail restlessly, pacing his 14X8 feet cell, a prison officials revealed.

Upon his arrival at Tihar jail at 4 pm on Monday, Kejriwal underwent a medical examination due to his low sugar level, receiving necessary medications before being housed alone in his cell, prison authorities confirmed.

His family is expected to visit him on Tuesday, officials said.

During his stay, Kejriwal was provided with tea in the afternoon and enjoyed a home-cooked dinner. He slept briefly on a cement platform, later seen pacing his cell late into the night, they said.

He continues to be monitored by Tihar jail doctors due to his low sugar levels, with a provision for home-cooked meals until his health stabilises, they added.

In the morning, Kejriwal engaged in meditation before being served tea and biscuits. Security measures include two personnel from Tihar Jail Security and a jail warder stationed outside his cell, CCTV surveillance, and a quick reaction team nearby.

Kejriwal’s requested books, including Ramayana, Mahabharata, and ‘How Prime Ministers Decide,’ have been provided, along with a religious locket. He has also submitted a list of six individuals he wishes to meet, including his family and close aides.

A Delhi court’s decision to remand Kejriwal in judicial custody until April 15 was based on the Enforcement Directorate’s concerns that his release could impede the investigation into the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case.

The agency emphasised ongoing investigations into Kejriwal’s involvement and the need to identify other individuals linked to the case. (With inputs from PTI)
