Yamuna remains above warning mark in Delhi

The water level of the Yamuna river reached 204.61 metres at the Old Railway Bridge on Wednesday morning, remaining above the warning mark of 204.50 metres for the second consecutive day, officials said.

According to a flood warning issued by the Central Water Commission on Tuesday evening, the river is likely to cross the danger mark by Wednesday evening.

It advised officers to keep a vigil in their respective areas and take necessary action, such as warning people residing near the river embankments and making arrangements to shift them to safer places.

The Yamuna’s water level stood at 204.61 metres at 9 am on Wednesday, the officials said.

The warning mark for the city is 204.5 metres, while the danger mark is 205.3 metres and evacuation starts at 206 metres. The Old Railway Bridge serves as a key observation point for tracking the river’s flow and potential flood risks.

“The reason for the increase in level is mostly due to the high volumes of water released from the Wazirabad and Hathnikund barrages every hour. It is forecast that the water level may increase further,” an official from the central flood room said.

According to the flood control department, around 37,230 cusecs of water is being released from Wazirabad every hour and around 52,448 cusecs is being released from the Hathnikund Barrage.

Water released from the barrages typically takes 48 to 50 hours to reach Delhi. Even lower discharges from upstream are raising the water level of the Yamuna.

Delhi govt notifies rules for e-delivery of summons, warrants

The Delhi BNSS (Service of Summons and Warrants) Rules, 2025, have been notified by the city government, paving the way for electronic delivery of court summons and warrants through WhatsApp and e-mail, officials said.

The move will save time and ensure prompt delivery of the summons, they said.

The notification, issued by the home department of Delhi government, was earlier approved by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, officials said on Saturday.

The provision of electronic delivery will free the police force from paperwork and clerical duties, thereby strengthening their policing activities and investigations, a senior government official said.

Delhi Crime: Crystal meth’s rise fuels alarm in city

Delhi Crime: A strange concern has gripped the Delhi Police and other law enforcement agencies. Once associated largely with parties, methamphetamine has now become widespread among the city’s youth, valued for its quick and powerful high.

Between May and July this year, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has reported multiple seizures of methamphetamine, or crystal meth, in the national capital. On July 21, officers nabbed a foreign national who had hidden 3.81 kg of crystal meth inside an unstitched cloth.

An initial check of her luggage revealed nothing unusual, but a detailed search of the coach uncovered an unclaimed bag concealed in the rear compartment. Inside, six folded salwar suits contained cardboard inserts with polythene-lined cavities. Field tests confirmed the crystalline substance to be methamphetamine. The woman was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act while travelling from Delhi to Bengaluru.
