Due to the prevailing cold weather conditions in Delhi, schools in the city will initiate classes from 9 am onwards, as per a circular issued by the Delhi government’s Directorate of Education on Sunday. The Directorate has also instructed schools not to conduct classes beyond 5 pm.

On Sunday, the national capital experienced severe cold conditions, with the minimum temperature dropping to 3.5 degrees Celsius – the lowest recorded this winter. Widespread fog was observed in various parts of the city.

The circular stated, “It is directed that all students of government and private schools shall resume physical classes from January 15 (Monday). This includes nursery, KG, and primary classes as well. However, considering the prevailing foggy conditions, schools (including double-shift schools) are advised not to commence classes before 9 am and to conclude classes by 5 pm until further notice.”

All teaching and non-teaching staff are required to report for duty as usual, with school heads responsible for informing students, parents, and staff about the revised schedule on Sunday.

Delhi’s minimum temperature on Sunday was four notches below the season’s average. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted very dense fog and cold wave conditions for the next two days in the national capital, with the possibility of dense fog persisting until January 20.

Earlier, due to the cold wave conditions, winter vacations for primary class students in city schools were extended from January 6 to January 12.
