Delhi records highest single-day rain in March in 3 years, says IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said that Delhi experienced 12.2 mm of rainfall in a 24-hour period that ended at 8.30 am on Saturday, the highest in a day in March in three years.

The maximum temperature in the city settled at 30.4 degrees Celsius, which is normal for the season. The Safdarjung observatory, Delhi’s primary weather station, recorded the rainfall between 8.30 am on Friday and 8.30 am on Saturday. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital improved to a satisfactory level, with a reading of 80 at 6 pm.

The IMD reported that the city’s minimum temperature was 15.3 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season’s average, while the relative humidity fluctuated between 85 per cent and 54 per cent.

The weather forecast for Monday predicts a partly cloudy sky, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to settle around 31 and 15 degrees Celsius, respectively. Heavy rain also hit parts of Delhi on Friday evening. (With inputs from PTI)
