A 55-year-old doctor has been arrested for allegedly molesting a four-year-old girl at a clinic in northwest Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar, police said.
The incident occurred on Sunday when the victim’s mother took her daughter for a check-up after she complained of stomach pain.
In the mother’s complaint, filed a day after the incident, she stated that she had briefly stepped outside to retrieve her purse, and upon returning, saw the doctor allegedly touching her daughter inappropriately, said the police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Jitender Kumar Meena said, “Based on the complaint of the victim’s mother, a case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Section 354 (A) (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code.”
“The accused doctor has been arrested and the matter is being investigated,” Meena added.
This heinous act has once again raised concerns over the safety of children, especially in medical facilities.
Commenting on the issue, child rights activist and lawyer Anuja Kapur said, “Such incidents are highly condemnable and show that there is a need for increased vigilance and stricter background checks of medical professionals who work with children.”
The incident is a reminder that everyone, including parents and medical staff, needs to remain alert and vigilant to prevent such heinous crimes from occurring in the future. (With inputs from PTI)
